56 meritorious HSLC students honoured under CMMSF

The School Education Department on Thursday felicitated 56 meritorious students belonging to the indigenous Scheduled Tribes of Nagaland under the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship (CMMSF) for their outstanding performance in the HSLC Examination 2026 at a programme held at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.

Advisor for School Education, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, who graced the programme as the special guest, congratulated the awardees on their academic achievements and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence with dedication, perseverance and integrity. He urged the students to use their knowledge and talents for the betterment of society and the state.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Yhome said the 56 students had distinguished themselves through hard work and determination. He advised them to remain humble, stay connected to their roots and contribute positively to society as they progress in life.

He also noted that 43 of the awardees were girls while 13 were boys, describing the increasing academic success of girls in recent years as a positive trend. Encouraging students to take advantage of opportunities in the digital era, he urged them to dream bigger and continue striving for excellence, adding that they are part of Nagaland’s growing legacy of academic achievement.

Delivering the welcome address, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) Chairperson Rangumbuing Nsarangbe described the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Students Fellowship as a reflection of the Chief Minister’s commitment to promoting academic excellence in the state. Besides recognising outstanding students with certificates, he said the fellowship provides financial assistance for a period of five years.

Nsarangbe informed the beneficiaries that continuation of the fellowship is subject to maintaining at least 80 per cent marks in their annual examinations. He also acknowledged the vital role played by parents and families, saying their sacrifices, encouragement and unwavering support are often the foundation of students’ success.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Benchumo Tungoe, who secured Rank 3 from Isaiah Ability Higher Secondary School, Wokha, and Imnayangla, who secured Rank 8 from St. Mary’s Residential School, Alichen, shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the recognition and encouragement provided through the fellowship.

The programme began with a thanksgiving prayer by Khekavi K. Yeptho, Pastor of Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima. Special musical presentations were made by Baptist School, Botsa, and Government Higher Secondary School, Kigwema. Dr. Yhome later presented awards and certificates to the 56 students, while the programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by L. Jamithung Lotha, State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland.
