As part of the Khelo India Scheme, the 78 Bn CRPF organised two days Open Football Tournament in collaboration with SAI and under the aegis of Manipur and Nagaland Sector, CRPF, at WAPO ground, Sechü-Zubza, Kohima.
According to a press release, Rajendra Narayan Dash, IPS, IG M&N Sector, CRPF was the Chief Guest at the event who in his speech highlighted the importance of sports in life and how it helps build team spirit leadership qualities and improve health. Speaking on the occasion, Devnath Somkunwar, Commandant 78 Bn, CRPF noted the contribution of CRPF in organize sporting events is to not only foster healthy lifestyles but also help bridge gaps between security forces and local populations.
The tournament is a two day event to be held on October 24 and 25 with a total of eight teams participating.

Four matches were held on October 24 where Phesama Student Union and Phoenix football club made it to the semi-finals that will be held on the second day. The two teams that will win in the semi-finals will face-off in the final match on second day to determine the winner, mentioned the press release.

The event is held to promote spirit of sportsmanship, unity, team work, develop a strong sports culture in youth, foster social integration, promote healthy lifestyles and also to help CRPF build better relation with local population through sports. The winning team, runner up team, best goal keeper, best player and top goal scorer each will receive trophies, medals and cash prize.
