The body of Ezanthung Odyuo, a fisherman from New Riphyim in his late 40s, was recovered from the Doyang River on March 1 at exactly 3 p.m. following a joint search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Odyuo had gone missing on February 26. According to village sources, alarm was raised after his safety tube was found floating in the river and he failed to return home. With no eyewitness account of the incident, villagers initiated search efforts but were unable to trace him for two days. A formal report was filed on February 28.

The SDRF team from Wokha, led by Platoon Commander, Mhonyamo, began operations on February 28 at around 10 a.m. after receiving information from the District Disaster Management Authority earlier that morning. Sixteen personnel were engaged on the first day, continuing the search till 4:40 p.m.

On the second day, the strength increased to 26 personnel. The team carried out battle search procedures and employed a spiralling boat technique to generate waves in an attempt to bring the body to the surface.

On March 1, the NDRF team led by Deputy Commandant, A Boboi arrived at 7 a.m. with 29 personnel, two boats and three deep divers. After repeated underwater searches, the divers located the body at exactly 3 p.m. Officials stated that the body had been lodged beneath a stone, which hindered earlier recovery efforts.

The body was later handed over to the family members.
