Representatives of the Humtso Village Youth Organization (HVYO), Humtso Village Council, contractor’s representative Tsenpo Murry and Er Chandemo Tungoe, SDO, PWD, held discussions on the progress of the ongoing Humtso-Elumyo village road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The project, sanctioned under PMGSY-III in March 2024 for an 18-month period, has seen limited progress and is currently in its second extension period.

Works completed so far include earth cutting, installation of Hume pipe culverts, construction of protection walls and excavation of side drains. However, key components of the project, including FDR, PCC and bituminous works, are yet to commence.

During the discussion, the department stated that efforts were being made to facilitate completion of the project by March 2027, while the contractor’s representative expressed the possibility of resuming work at the earliest.

The prolonged delay has reportedly been attributed to challenges including incessant rainfall, shortage or breakdown of machinery and other operational difficulties. Despite the delays, residents have continued to await a properly constructed road for regular travel and connectivity.

The HVYO appealed to the concerned firm and those responsible for executing the project to resume construction at the earliest and complete the road before the forthcoming Christmas celebrations.

The organisation also expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for acknowledging its concerns and assured continued cooperation towards ensuring better road connectivity for the people of Humtso and Elumyo villages.
