The Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) 2010 & 2013 batches on Tuesday put their agitation on hold after four days, following the assurance from Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) that they would take up the matter with the government.

On the fourth day of the ongoing agitation by the Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) 2010 & 2013 batches, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) extended solidarity to the protesting teachers, assuring them that the two federations would take up the matter with the government while urging them to return to their classrooms.

Addressing the gathering, NSF President, Mteisuding Heraang said it was the fourth day of the agitation and expressed disappointment that the government had not responded to the teachers’ concerns. He stated that wherever systems fail, agitations arise, and affirmed that the federations understand the sentiments and emotions of the teachers.

Declaring that the 2010 and 2013 batches are “the sons and daughters” of NSF and ENSF, Heraang assured the teachers that the two federations would not abandon them. He said the federations have fought alongside them thus far and would continue to take the issue forward with sincerity and commitment until their goal is achieved.

At the same time, he appealed to the teachers not to be driven by emotions but to uphold professionalism in their respective workplaces. On behalf of the student community, he urged them to return to their schools and work diligently for the welfare of students. He maintained that while the federations would handle the negotiations and pursue justice, prolonged street protests risked affecting the student community.

ENSF President, Nuheymong Yimkhiung also addressed the gathering, lauding the teachers for their dedication and sacrifices in shaping future generations. He stated that the English he speaks today is a seed sown by teachers and expressed deep respect for their role in society.

Yimkhiung affirmed that ENSF would not shy away from carrying forward the issue until justice is delivered. He revealed that the federations had even rejected certain meeting minutes placed before them, underscoring their seriousness on the matter. Reassuring the teachers of unwavering support, he requested them to repose faith in the two federations and return to their classrooms, assuring that they would be called upon if their presence became necessary.

Speaking on behalf of the agitating teachers, NGTA 2010 & 2013 President Peihau said the teachers had been denied their rights and had been sitting in protest for four days demanding what is rightfully theirs. He outlined three key demands: inclusion of their salaries under the State Non-Plan, implementation with effect from April 2026, and written compliance from the authorities.

Peihau stated that after deliberations with NSF and ENSF, and with the mandate of their members and core committees, the association has decided to put the agitation on hold, trusting the two federations to carry forward the fight.

NGTA Dimapur Unit President, Alemkala expressed gratitude to both federations for their solidarity and commitment. She said the issue ultimately impacts the welfare and future of the student community and that the federations’ timely intervention has strengthened the morale of the teachers.

She reiterated hope for a just and positive resolution, emphasizing unity, collective leadership, and principled advocacy in safeguarding the rights and dignity of both teachers and students.
