Mahila Jan Sunwai held at Dimapur and Mon

The Nagaland State Commission for Women, in collaboration with the District Administration, DHEW, Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare and District Legal Service Authorities (DLSA) organized a Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) on March 13, 2026, at DC Conference Hall, Dimapur. The program was chaired by Imlijungla Lemtur, EAC Dimapur. The event aimed to provide women with a direct platform to voice their grievances and seek institutional support.

Delivering the keynote address, Akokla Longchar, Member Nagaland State Commission for Women encouraged women to assert their rights and also emphasis the crucial role of men folk in solving social problems especially in domestic violence.

Longchar, mentioned various types of domestic violence including physical, psychological and economic violence that is prevailing in our society. She informed that the mindsets of our people in regards to domestic related problems have created a stigma leading to subjugation of justice.

She reminded all the members of collaborative departments, civil societies and women’s organisation that their active roles are crucial in combating social evils and injustice. She enthralled the audience with her rich knowledge and expertise.

Zuchumbeni, Panel Lawyer, (DLSA), Lunuienla Imchen Women Helpline Administrator (Mission Shakti),  Temjenshongla, Resident Superintendent Dimapur, Shakti Sadan and member from Sakhi-One Stop Centre, shared insightful information of their respective departments/ Organisations  on women’s rights.

The event witness representatives from different branches such as Dimapur District Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Gainburas, and Women’s frontal organisations. Dhonthaidi Langthasa, Gender Specialist, DHEW, proposed the vote of thanks.

The Mahila Jan Sunwai underscores the commitment to empowering women and ensuring their rights are protections, highlighted the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in promoting women’s welfare and justice.

Under the initiative of National Commission for Women, Nagaland State Commission for Women in collaboration with District Administration Mon and District Hub for Empowerment of Women and Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mon, organised Mahila Jansunwai, a Public Hearing at your doorstep, was held on March 13 at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Mon, commemorating International Women’s Day 2026 with Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women, W. Nginyeih Konyak.

Nginyeih Konyak said that Mahila Jansunwai is a Pan India Jansunwai, organised with an aim to offer immediate legal guidance, address pending complaints, a direct accessible platform for voicing grievances and seeking legal institutional support. It focuses on addressing issues like domestic violence, harassment, and workplace abuse.

Urging women folk to know their legal rights to live a secure life, she asserted that without the support and cooperation from men folk empowerment of women is not possible. She also acknowledges all the line Departments for their all-time cooperation.

SDO Civil Mon, Ajit Kumar, IAS in his keynote address said that Public Jansunwai is an important platform for people to voice their grievances, strengthens transparency, accountability, and trust in governance ensuring direct interaction between administration and citizens. He also said that Women are the foundation of family, community, and development. In Nagaland, women contribute significantly in Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Education, Community leadership.

Ajit Kumar also explained the Challenges Faced by Women in Nagaland – Gender discrimination in some areas, domestic violence and safety concerns, limited access to justice and economic opportunities. Emphasising the need for a stronger awareness of women’s rights, he said Women’s empowerment requires collective effort and Community Responsibility. He encouraged the participants to speak freely and constructively.

Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak and President KNSK Ponglem Konyak also delivered short speeches. Anyim Konyak, Case Worker, Sakhi- One Stop Centre Mon, highlighted the activities of Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Mon through PowerPoint Presentation.

The programme was chaired by Ashom Konyak, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW Mission Shakti. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Apoang Konyak, case Worker (Legal) Sakhi-OSC, Mon.
