The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), along with its frontal organizations, has reiterated its firm support for the collective memorandum submitted by Dimapur-based tribal hohos to the Government of Nagaland on February 21 last, demanding continuation of the Foothills Road project.
In a statement, the Hoho, along with the Western Chakhesang Students Union (WCSU), Western Chakhesang Mothers Association (WCMA) and Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO), backed the demand for issuance of the second phase work order under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme on or before March 31, 2026.
Describing the Foothills Road as a landmark “People’s Road,” the organisations said the project reflects the shared aspirations of the Naga people for enhanced connectivity, economic growth and integration. Since its inception in 2013, the project has stood as a testament to the people’s resilience and unity, cutting across districts and communities, it added.
The WCH stated that the ongoing construction of the Foothills Road is both a people-driven initiative and a reflection of the government’s commitment. However, it cautioned that any delay in continuing the project could undermine public confidence and the momentum already achieved.
At this critical juncture, the hoho and its frontal bodies called for constructive dialogue, mutual understanding and coordinated action among all stakeholders to ensure that the project does not face avoidable impediments.

Reiterating its stand, the WCH emphasized that the ongoing two-lane Foothills Road project under the SASCI scheme must remain the immediate priority and should not be conflated with other proposals at this stage. It warned that any deviation or delay in the project could compel the people to democratically assert their rightful demands.
Affirming solidarity, the Western Chakhesang Hoho and its frontal organizations said they stand resolute with the Dimapur-based tribal hohos and would continue to uphold the collective stand until a logical and satisfactory conclusion is achieved.
