The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, issued a circular on March 23 regulating the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders in the district, following instructions from the Food and Civil Supplies Department.

The circular stated that priority allocation would be given to essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, hotels, restaurants, bakeries, dairies, and transport-related establishments. Distribution would be made strictly on request through the DC’s office.

To prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution, the monthly supply to each consumer will be based on the average consumption of the previous three months, as recorded by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

Distributors have been directed to maintain date-wise records, and in case of delay, supply will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. It further instructed to submit daily distribution reports to the DC office.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that a district-level committee has been constituted to monitor the distribution of LPG and other petroleum products and to curb hoarding, black marketing, and overpricing.

The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, was in partial modification of earlier communications and in pursuance of directives from the state government. The committee has been formed to ensure strict enforcement of regulations and to prevent malpractices in the supply and distribution system.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner will serve as the convenor of the committee, while members include the Deputy Commissioner of Police, District Civil Supplies Officer, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, Extra Assistant Commissioner (Sadar), State Level Coordinator of IOCL, Senior Depot Manager of IOCL Dimapur, and Field Officer of BPCL.

The committee and enforcement team will carry out coordinated inspections and check to prevent illegal storage, hoarding, black marketing, and overpricing of LPG. It further stated that strict action will be taken against violators under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, and other relevant laws.
