Greenwood School students visit NU’s School of Agricultural Sciences

Altogether 115 students from Greenwood School, Kuda Village, Dimapur, Nagaland, accompanied by 4 teachers, visited School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema campus as an educational tour on March 24.

Students explored the Educational Museum and College Library of the campus, where they were highlighted how the Library functions, the system used, dos and don’ts to be followed in the library. They also interacted with the scientist of All India Coordinated Research Project on honeybees and pollinators, where they were given an insight on the importance of pollinators, particularly honeybees.

They also visited the Insect Museum in the Department of Entomology, where they were explained about diversity of the pests available, the orders of insects, beneficial insects, and important insect pests of agricultural crops, followed by a visit to the disease museum in the Department of Plant Pathology, where they were given an insight into plant diseases.

This visit facilitated an opportunity for interactive learning, deepened the students’ understanding and appreciation for innovative methods and research being pursued in the agriculture sector, enhancing their knowledge and career prospects. The field trip ended with an interaction session with the Dean (I/c) Prof KK Jha, Medziphema Campus.

The visit was coordinated by Dr Lowrence Kithan, Scientist, AICRP on Kharif Pulses; Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology; Dr Sentinaro, Guest Faculty, Department of Horticulture; and Dr Kevineituo Bier, Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science, SAS:NU, Medziphema Campus.
