S. Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) has issued a clarification on March 25 regarding the compensation on Foothills Road.
In his statement, Jamir mentioned that it has come to his notice through various social media platforms that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by 14 tribal Hohos is being questioned, with demands that it be declared null and void. “Regarding Fully damage property compensation to be provided after it’s approval from the Ministry of Transport and Highways is totally baseless and misleading,” clarified Jamir.
The MP stressed that the proposed Foothills Road, envisaged as a Trans-Nagaland Highway, is a vital infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth across the state.
He further noted that the Government of Nagaland has already submitted the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, seeking approval to upgrade the Foothills Road as a National Highway, with an estimated project cost of approximately ₹3,284 crore.

Therefore, the MP urged the State Government and the concerned departments to take proactive steps in restoring the confidence of all stakeholders, including the Foothills Committee members, tribal Hohos, and the affected landowners.
“It is imperative to engage in constructive dialogue and build consensus to address concerns amicably. Bridging the gap between the State Government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the landowners is crucial for the successful implementation of this project. A balanced and inclusive approach will ensure that the larger interest of the citizens is upheld while respecting the rights and concerns of all involved,” expressed Jamir.
