Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, chaired a review meeting on Monsoon Preparedness at the Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima on May 4.
During the meeting, Abhijit Sinha, IAS, Home Commissioner, presented a detailed overview of the monsoon outlook for 2026. It was highlighted that while India may experience below-normal rainfall due to likely El Niño conditions, Nagaland is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall with intense and uneven distribution.

The presentation outlined key risks including flash floods, landslides and erratic rainfall patterns. Departments also shared district-wise preparedness plans, including the establishment of control rooms, deployment of machinery, and identification of vulnerable road stretches.
The Public Works Department (PWD) informed that all National Highways and major roads are being closely monitored, with alternative routes identified to ensure connectivity during emergencies. Maintenance works such as drainage clearance, slope stabilization and pre-positioning of resources are being undertaken across divisions.
