A quarterly meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Peren on pre-monsoon preparedness was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren on May 18 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DDMA Peren, Hiazu Meru.
In his opening address, the Deputy Commissioner stated that monsoon preparedness is of utmost importance, particularly during the monsoon season when various challenges arise, with road connectivity remaining a major concern. Referring to the previous year, he said the district had witnessed significant disruptions due to heavy rainfall and damage to roads.
He further stated that whenever major roads are damaged, Peren district serves as a crucial alternative route for vehicles travelling towards Manipur and Kohima, thereby highlighting the district’s strategic importance.
The DC also observed that this year’s monsoon has arrived earlier than usual, indicating the likelihood of heavier rainfall. He cautioned that excessive rainfall could result in severe damage to roads and other infrastructure. The Chairman further urged all concerned departments and stakeholders to remain vigilant, maintain close coordination, and ensure timely dissemination of information for effective disaster response and management during the monsoon period.

During the meeting, discussions were held on preparedness measures relating to road connectivity, power supply, healthcare services, water supply, internet connectivity and adequate stock of essential commodities in the district during the ensuing monsoon season. Concerned departments highlighted their preparedness plans and measures being undertaken to ensure timely response and uninterrupted essential services during emergencies.
The meeting was attended by members of DDMA Peren, officials from various departments, and representatives from construction firms.
