The Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chumoukedima, has informed that a mass social work would be conducted across the district on May 22 from 6 a.m. onwards as part of monsoon preparedness measures.
According to Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA, Chumoukedima, Polan John the initiative aims to foster collective responsibility and encourage community participation for a cleaner and healthier Chumoukedima ahead of the monsoon season.
The social work would focus on unclogging drains, clearing construction materials and debris, waste disposal, removal of foliage, and cleaning and upkeep of public spaces and utilities.
In this regard, all shops and business establishments have been directed to remain closed from 6 a.m. to 12 noon. Heads of Departments and institutions have also been instructed to mobilize their officers and staff for cleaning office premises and surrounding areas.
A joint team comprising PWD (NH), PWD (R&B), PWD (Mechanical), WRD, PHED, Fire & Emergency Services, 1st NAP Battalion, Chumoukedima Town Council, and Chumoukedima Town Youth Organization will carry out cleaning activities along NH-29 from 3rd Mile Airport culvert till Chathe bridge (Patkai bridge).

The Executive Officers of Chumoukedima Town Council and Medziphema Town Council, along with Area Administrative Officers, have been directed to monitor and ensure participation of all business establishments along NH-29, particularly in clearing drains and removing accumulated dust and debris along road dividers and paved shoulders.
Further, NHIDCL has been entrusted to clear debris and drainage along the four-lane highway under Chumoukedima district, especially in the Tsiedukhru stretch, and to provide dumper trucks for garbage disposal.
Citizens have also been urged to organize cleanliness drives in their respective homes, neighbourhoods, lanes, and roads, while Village Councils and Colony GBs have been tasked with supervising and monitoring the cleanliness exercise.
Meanwhile, ACP Traffic, Chumoukedima, will ensure proper traffic management along NH-29 during the social work programme.
