Plantation drive conducted at FAC Mokokchung, SAS NU and Tethuyo village

Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, observed World Environment Day on June 5 in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Eco Club. The event commenced with an address by the Principal, Dr I Wati Imchen, who spoke on the importance of caring for the environment and emphasized the role of students in nurturing and maintaining a clean, green, and sustainable college campus.

As part of the observance, a Tree Plantation Drive was conducted within the college campus.

NSS Volunteers and Eco Club members participated in planting saplings at designated locations. The programme concluded successfully with active participation from the students and faculty members.

SAS, NU:

The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus observed World Environment Day on June 5 by organizing a tree plantation programme under the nationwide ‘Plant4Mother’ campaign. The programme was jointly organized by NSS, Eco-Club and Campus Beautification Committee of SAS.

The plantation drive brought together university authorities, senior faculty members, staff, student representatives, NSS volunteers and members of the Eco-Club. Among those present were the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dean, Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Librarian, convenors of the Eco-Club and Campus Beautification Committee, and representatives of the Students’ Union and Ph.D. Forum.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Noyingthung Kikon, Incharge, NSS, who highlighted on the significance of the “Plant4Mother” campaign being observed on the occasion of World Environment Day. He emphasized that tree planting is a simple yet meaningful step towards environmental conservation and reflects a collective commitment to safeguarding nature for future generations.

As part of the programme, saplings were planted at designated locations within the campus. University officials, faculty members, student representative, and volunteers joined the plantation drive, reaffirming their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Tethuyo village:

A successful sanitation and plantation drive was conducted at Tethuyo Village on the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future” on June 5.  The programme was organized by the Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) Sitimi in collaboration with PHED Kiphire, Tethuyo United Club, and Akheda Amulung.

The programme was chaired by Muralen L Sangtam, while the invocation was pronounced by Tsiphu, Youth Pastor. Short speeches were delivered by Delimla, JE PHED Kiphire, Longtili C Sangtam, Founder of Akheda Amulung, and Tsomongthe A, Centre Manager, CFL Sitimi. The vote of thanks was proposed by Alomong, President of Tethuyo United Club, and the programme concluded with a benediction by Teresa, Women Pastor.

On behalf of the Tethuyo United Club, heartfelt gratitude was extended to the 30 Assam Rifles, Kiphire, for joining and supporting the sanitation and plantation drive. Their participation added strength and encouragement to the initiative.

The club also expressed sincere appreciation to the Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) Sitimi for taking the initiative and leading the programme with a vision of environmental protection and community participation.

Special gratitude was extended to Y Intsangju Sangtam, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Kiphire, for providing financial support for the purchase of saplings. His contribution demonstrated that true development means promoting both industry and environmental conservation. The organizers, youth, and villagers thanked him for supporting their efforts towards a greener future.

The organizers further thanked Delimla (JE, PHED Kiphire), Irothe, and Tsomongthe A. (Centre Manager, CFL Sitimi) for their insightful and motivating speeches.

Appreciation was also extended to all youth members and villagers who attended the programme, brought their tools, and actively participated in the sanitation and plantation activities. Their dedication reflected the club’s motto, “Progress Through Unity.”

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers highlighted the growing impact of climate change in the region. They noted that temperatures in and around Tethuyo Village have risen significantly in recent years, reaching around 36–37°C during the summer months, largely due to ecological imbalance and declining forest cover. They emphasized the importance of planting and protecting trees as an investment in a healthier climate and a better future.

The programme concluded with a call to the younger generation to take responsibility for environmental conservation and become active participants in addressing climate challenges.
