The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Noklak, has issued a monsoon advisory urging residents to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant against weather-related hazards during the rainy season.

The advisory was issued by Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman P Mono Khiamniungan under the powers vested by the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Sections 26(2) and 30(2)(v), to ensure public safety and minimise risks arising from heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.

The DDMA advised residents to stay informed about weather conditions by regularly checking forecasts and downloading the SAFER Nagaland mobile application from the Google Play Store for real-time weather updates.

The public has been cautioned against entering or crossing flooded areas during heavy rainfall and advised to exercise extreme caution while crossing bridges or moving near rivers and other water bodies.

Motorists have also been urged to exercise caution while travelling on roads susceptible to flooding and landslides. The advisory recommends postponing travel whenever heavy rain and poor visibility make road conditions unsafe.

In particular, the DDMA has advised the public to avoid travelling at night during the monsoon season, citing increased risks posed by landslides, road damage and poor visibility.

Residents have also been warned to stay away from electrical power lines, especially during wet conditions, and immediately report any fallen or hanging power lines to the concerned authorities.

The advisory further called upon the public to look after vulnerable members of society, including the elderly, children and persons with special needs, by extending assistance whenever required.
