Deputy Commissioner & Principal Census Officer, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, visited Mezoma and Sechüma villages on Friday to review the ongoing House Listing and Housing Census operations and interact with village leaders, census functionaries and residents on July 24.
At Mezoma Village, the Deputy Commissioner commended the successful completion of the House Listing Operations, attributing the achievement to the dedication and efficiency of the supervisors and enumerators. He said the census personnel were carefully selected by the district’s administrative officers, who made the right and conscious decision in identifying capable officials for the task.
While congratulating the census team, Buchem reminded the gathering that the House Listing phase was only the beginning and that the Population Enumeration scheduled for February would be the decisive stage of the Census. He urged everyone to extend the same level of cooperation during the next phase to ensure the success of the Census.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the villagers to approach him freely whenever they required assistance, saying they should consider him as a brother rather than merely as the Deputy Commissioner. He assured them of his willingness to help in every possible way within his capacity.
Mezoma Village Council Chairman, Vikehelie Victor, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for visiting the village despite his busy schedule and appreciated his engagement with the community.
Later, at Sechüma Village, the Deputy Commissioner met members of the Village Council, youth, students, women’s organisation and elderly residents.
After being briefed on the progress of the House Listing operations, Buchem expressed happiness at visiting the village and interacting with the community. He observed that Kohima district was comparatively well placed in terms of infrastructure and encouraged the villagers to continue working together in unity for the overall development of the area.

He informed the gathering that he had a long-term vision for the development of the Sechü-Zubza area which may not be visible immediately. He also advised residents to be prepared for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls and to extend their full cooperation in adding all eligible new voters as well as deleting all ineligible voters.
During the interaction, the villagers expressed appreciation to the Government for the development of infrastructure such as the Village Council Hall, village ground, multipurpose hall and health centre. They also placed several developmental requirements before the Deputy Commissioner for consideration by the Government. Community members remarked that Buchem was the first Deputy Commissioner to visit their village on his own initiative without any formal invitation.
The Deputy Commissioner also visited the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Sechü-Zubza, where he interacted with the staff. He encouraged the officials to continue their dedicated service, stating that the success or failure of government policies depends not only on political leaders but equally on government employees. He urged them to perform their duties with sincerity, professionalism and impartiality at all times.
The visiting team included SDO (Civil), Sechü-Zubza, James Renbi Kikon, NCS; EAC Dr. Riku Khutso, NCS; District Public Relations Officer Atuzo Peseyie; along with census supervisor and enumerators.
