Member of Parliament from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday urged the Central Government to strengthen the infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.

Raising the issue during Zero House in Parliament, Jamir highlighted the growing importance of veterinary education, animal health management and livestock development. He appealed to the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key developmental projects for the institution.

The Lok Sabha MP proposed construction of a Veterinary Clinical Complex; upgradation and enhancement of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic (VLD) facilities for efficient and accurate animal disease diagnosis; and introduction of Veterinary Telemedicine and Mobile Animal Health initiatives to improve outreach and service delivery.

Jamir stated that these interventions would significantly improve the quality of veterinary education, strengthen animal healthcare services, and enhance capacity building in the livestock sector in line with national development initiatives.

He emphasized that students from across the country study at the college, and the proposed infrastructure upgrades would greatly benefit them while helping the institution emerge as one of the leading veterinary colleges in India.

The MP urged the Ministry to accord priority to the proposals, noting that investment in veterinary education is essential for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security, and creating employment opportunities in the rural economy.
