Dimapur Police have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly cheating a job aspirant of Rs 1.5 lakh by promising overseas employment and impersonating officials of various organisations.
The accused, identified as Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani, son of Lachmandas Ramnani, was arrested by Dimapur East Police on September 5 in connection with Dimapur East PS Case No. 191/26, registered under Sections 318(4), 319(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, Ramnani allegedly approached the victim while posing as the “District President of Dimapur East Nagaland Anti-Corruption (ORG)”.
He allegedly promised to secure the victim a job in Luxembourg and collected Rs 1,50,000 on January 15, 2026, claiming the amount was required towards job-processing fees.
Police said the accused allegedly attempted to reinforce the job offer by issuing a purported certificate in the name of “Mama Shelter Luxembourg”.
He subsequently allegedly demanded another Rs 1 lakh, claiming that the additional payment was required to finalise the overseas employment.
During the course of the arrest, police also recovered a suspicious identification card bearing the name “CBI (Central Bureau of Intelligence)”.
According to police, the card falsely projected Ramnani as the “Nagaland State Director” of the purported agency.

The recovery has raised further concerns over alleged impersonation and the use of fraudulent credentials to gain the trust of unsuspecting members of the public.
Ramnani has been booked under provisions relating to cheating, cheating by personation and criminal intimidation under the BNS.
Dimapur Police have appealed to members of the public who may have been allegedly duped, approached or otherwise had grievances or information concerning Ramnani to come forward and report the matter.
People with relevant information have been asked to contact East Police Station, Dimapur, at 7085055020.
Police said such information could help identify other potential victims and assist in the investigation.
