Organisations, leaders and student bodies have mourned the passing of Adinno Z. Phizo, President of the Naga National Council (NNC) and eldest daughter of Naga national leader A.Z. Phizo, who died at Bethel Hospital, Kohima, on October 8.
The condolence messages acknowledged her longstanding role in the Naga national movement and her efforts to carry forward the political legacy of her father, who died in London in 1990.
The NSCN (IM), in a statement issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), expressed profound sorrow over her demise, saying she had carried forward her father’s legacy with dignity, steadfastness and devotion for more than three decades.
While acknowledging that their political paths had differed at times, the group recognised that the NNC under AZ Phizo had laid what it described as the historic foundation of the Naga political movement. It cited the Declaration of August 14, 1947, the 1951 Plebiscite and the formation of the Federal Government of Nagaland as defining milestones in Naga political history.
The NSCN (IM) said Adinno had preserved the historical legacy of the NNC and kept alive the spirit of Naga nationalism. It extended condolences to her family, the NNC and the Naga community.
The NSCN/GPRN (YA) also expressed sorrow over her passing, describing her as a leader who had shouldered a significant historical responsibility following her father’s death. It said her decades of service, resilience and commitment to the Naga people would remain part of the collective memory of the Naga nation.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) described Adinno as a prominent figure in Naga political history whose life and leadership were closely associated with the Naga national movement and its longstanding aspirations.

Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir, in a separate condolence message, described Adinno as a person of courage and conviction who carried the responsibility of leadership with dignity and fortitude through periods of political and social change. He said her lifelong commitment to the Naga cause would be remembered by generations to come.
P Longon, MLA and Advisor to the Department of Taxes, Government of Nagaland, also expressed grief over her demise, describing her as a figure of resilience, dignity and commitment. He said her role in carrying forward the historical legacy of the NNC after her father’s death would remain a memorable part of Naga history.
The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) said Adinno had devoted her life to the responsibilities entrusted to her within the Naga national movement. It noted that she assumed NNC leadership after A.Z. Phizo’s death in 1990 and remained committed to upholding the organisation’s political position.
The AKM said her passing marked the end of a significant chapter in Naga political leadership and extended condolences to her family, relatives and members of the NNC.
The organisations and leaders prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and expressed hope that the departed soul would rest in eternal peace.
