Sükrünye Festival in Phek concludes

The Sükrünye festival celebrations in Phek which had begun on 14 January concluded on Sunday with DC Phek Kumar Ramnikant IAS, as Sükrünye Guest.

According to a DIPR report, the celebration of Sükrünye and Youth Festival on 15 January was held at the local ground in Phek Town.

On the occasion, the Phek DC spoke on the significance of Sükrünye Festival – ‘puri6ication’ – for which he called upon the people to purify one’s heart so that celebration of the festival becomes meaningful.

Ramnikant acknowledged people’s support for preserving traditional festivals and said, “Culture is our identity that makes us unique”. He called upon upcoming youths to sincerely preserve their traditional culture and also urged them to come forward with new ideas that are good for the community.

The celebration also featured a Miss Sükrünye contest which was won by Mesungo-u Lasushe. Ukolu Hoshi and Ruth Hoshi were the first and second runners-up respectively.

A special song was presented by Phek Town Women’s Welfare Society during the celebration.

The invocation prayer was pronounced by by Chivo Medio Youth Director, CYE PTBC while Sükrünye greetings were delivered by Neihite Akami, Advisor PTYS.

The comperes of the programme were Kuvolu Khesoh and Votalu Luruo.

The concluding words of the programme were delivered by Chikhove Keyho.
