NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon who registered a big win in the Bhandari assembly constituency beating BJP National spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon, has listed out reasons for his party’s poor show this election.
Admitting that the party have failed to give a good show in this 2023 general election, Kikon also pointed out that the party could not field candidates in all the 60 constituencies due to limited resources as the party has been in opposition last term. Stating this, he said, out of the 41 applicants received the party had selected the best ones and expected to win at least 7 to 12 seats.
“We were expecting at least 7-10 to 12 seats because the performance was not bad from all the expected candidates. We were expecting at least a reasonable number but in the midst of electioneering process a lot of resources were pumped from the ruling dispensation and many of our candidates could not withstood such move so that is one reason why many of our candidates who were expected to win lost the election,” added Kikon.

The NPF candidates have lost by very close margins for example in Tapi constituency our candidate lost by 82 votes, he said, adding that it only indicates that people of Nagaland have totally not rejected the cock party, but it is only because the party have limited resources.
“I must admit that the result is below the expected line however small in number our party is a very strong party. We have stood the test of times and we are confident that we will be able to rebuild this party again starting from the scratch again. We are down for the time being but I assure you we are not out yet,” stated Kikon.
Speaking on whether the cock party is looking for any alliance, Kikon stated the party has taken the step of pre poll understanding for post poll alliance and the party is maintaining close proximity with all the political parties as it could not set up candidates in the whole 60 A/C.
Since the party is less in number, we are in no way of making any desperate move to forge an alliance with any political party to form alternative govt, he said adding that
The decision to take part in the government depends on the party leadership.
