The NDPP Kohima region on Monday strongly condemned post-poll violence at Jotsoma calling the acts “dastardly and cowardly”. In its statement, the party said that the incidences on 27 February, the day of polling in Nagaland, and 5 march 2023 “could be the first recorded post-poll violence in the entire district since statehood”.
It added that the perpetrators “has brought shame and tarnished the image of the peace loving citizens of the district.” The party urged the law enforcing agency act upon the FIR’s lodged and arrest and book the culprits.

NDPP Kohima region stated that on the two events, some youths went on a “rampage against some innocent, defenseless people to the extent of not even sparing the minors”.
NDPP had earlier stated that nine people were physically assaulted by miscreants on the polling day. Later on Sunday, some more people at the PHED quarter in Jotsoma were assaulted by “Melie and his accomplices” in post-poll violence.

NDPP’s candidate Salhoutuonuo Kruse and Independent candidate Keneizhakho Nakhro had battled for 8 Western Angami Assembly Constituency where Kruse beat her opponent by just 7 votes. Nakhro was the sitting MLA from NDPP but was denied the party ticket ahead of the 2023 election.
