The Women’s Studies Centre of Nagaland University organised a programme to mark International Women’s Day at the Kohima Campus on the theme “DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”.
While addressing the gathering on Tuesday, Special Guest, Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü, Department of English, Nagaland University spoke on the importance of reservation for women and highlighted how such policies ought to be encouraged as they pave the way for women to move forward. She also reminisced about Naga women’s journey for inclusion in the highest decision-making bodies of the state, a DIPR report stated.
Dzüvichü also shared concerns about how women face challenges in cyberspace such as cyber bullying, trolling and harassment. She posed a question as to how far access to digital technology has actually reached women especially in the rural areas and she urged scientists and others to come forward with innovative solutions so that women’s participation could be increased in the digital world.
Rosemary also emphasized on the need to educate the menfolk and create awareness about them on issues of gender equality and women empowerment. She urged the male counterparts everywhere to listen to women’s voices which will go a long way in uplifting society.

Welcoming the guests, Prof. Lungsang Zeliang, Director in Charge of the Centre thanked everyone for showing their solidarity with women and also called upon the gathering to celebrate differences and contribute in different ways to close the gender gap even in the digital space. She also thanked the men for being partners in women’s progress.

The Administrative in Charge of the Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Prof. Buno Zetsuvi also speaking on the occasion highlighted on how International Women’s Day came to be observed and how women over the ages and across the globe have been fighting for their rights. She talked about how far women have come – from being refused the right to vote to now occupying the highest offices in different parts of the world.
Leizuyile, Women Coordinator of Nagaland University Students’ Union, Kohima Campus also presented a short speech on the occasion and called for gender equality and sensitization. She dwelt on the role of technology in bringing a change to women’s lives and on the importance of women’s participation in the digital space.
A specially composed song was presented by MA Education Boys.
The Programme was chaired by Dr Petekhrienuo Sorhie, Head, Department of Tenyidie and Dr Anu GS, Department of Education said the invocation prayer. Vote of thanks was offered by Dr Kethokhrienuo Belho, of Department of Tenyidie.
