Nagaland Police have detained the JCB driver who was allegedly involved in vandalising the Naga Students Federation (NSF) office in the wee hours of 27 May, informed a senior police official.

The driver was detained yesterday by the Police.

“That JCB driver was just given some money and told to do this work. No background, no building so that will come out during the investigation further. He did what he was told. His fault is he demolished, but he would not know what he is doing,” said the senior Police official.

After screening the CCTV footages, which showed more than thirty people at the site, the police have narrowed down few suspects and have identified at least four individuals. The police is hopeful to detain the identified suspect at the earliest.

“We are making efforts so hopefully today we should be able to get them. They may be hiding,” added the senior police official.

Meanwhile, Advisor School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, visited the site earlier today.

Mentioning that, NSF is a political institution which was born out of the Naga Political movement Yhome said, the act has sent shockwaves not only across the state but the entire North-east region since, NSF is like a parent body for many students bodied across the region.

The law will take it’s own course of action, said Yhome while, adding that Naga society has different modes of expressing anger, frustrations however, this kind of act has gone beyond.

“We do not know the logic and motive behind all these things, but hopefully in couple of days we will know who is behind all this, what kind of group is behind all this. I must say, I deeply sympathize with the NSF today and I stand by them,” said Yhome.

Yhome also stressed that NSF should immediately set up their office because their activity has to go on and the federation cannot be hampered by this issue.

On query whether the state government will extend any financial aid, Yhome said.

“We will look into that, right now I have just spoken to some of the NSF leaders, their livelihood has been totally drawn into. So, immediately if they can do something from their end, we will definitely look into that. I know many of them because occasionally, although, I have never been part of the NSF but occasionally we have work together, so I know many of them also. Totally dependent on little shops they run here and have been part of the NSF family also so it’s very heart raging to say that in great form. So of course, we will look and take into consideration to all those.”
