The event shed light on the critical importance of combating trafficking and providing support to its victims. Participants were educated about “Mission Shakti,” a scheme initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development aimed at empowering women and strengthening safety and security interventions.
Moamenla Longkumer, the Mission Coordinator of District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), gave an insightful overview of “Mission Shakti.”
The program further gained momentum as Tajungla Longkumer, an advocate from Sakhi-One Stop Centre, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the various facets and types of human trafficking. She emphasized the importance of understanding the meaning of trafficking in persons and the legal provisions to combat this heinous crime.
Tajungla Longkumer called for collective action and awareness, cautioning attendees that fighting and advocating against human trafficking is not solely the responsibility of organizations, lawyers, or stakeholders. Instead, she urged all citizens to take a proactive role in creating awareness and driving change.
The event was organized as an initiative of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) campaign, which aimed to address trafficking’s impact on vulnerable communities.
The program concluded with a renewed sense of commitment from participants, vowing to stand united against trafficking in persons and ensure that no victim is left behind. Mokokchung District shows its determination to combat this global issue and protect its citizens from the clutches of exploitation.
