The Yemüshe Festival, the premier cultural celebration of the Pochury tribe, commenced with fervour and enthusiasm from October 1 to October 5, informed a DIPR report. This annual festival marks the joyous welcome of the new harvest, the result of a year’s hard labour, and invokes divine blessings for bountiful crops.
KG Kenye, Minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs for Nagaland graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Joining him were a distinguished array of dignitaries, including MLA Dr Neisatuo, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Phek’s Superintendent of Police, 5th NAP Commandant, SP Shamator, Director of Tourism, and several government officials from Kohima and Phek.
Adding to the festival’s grandeur, Major General Vikas Lakhera, the IGAR (North), along with Commandant 38th A R and other army officers, participated in the festivities.
The Yemüshe Festival showcased the rich cultural heritage of Pochury through captivating folk dances and melodious tunes performed by cultural troupes representing MAPO, KAPO, ARPO, PAPO, and PPO. The day’s highlights included demonstrations of traditional salt-making and pottery techniques, preserving the age-old traditions of the region.

The festival also witnessed an archery competition featuring the first arrow shot by Minister G.K Kenye, followed by Advisor Z Ntusietho Nyuthe and MLA Dr Neisatuo taking their turns.
With over five thousand people in attendance, the Yemüshe festival served as a vibrant platform for the Pochury community to come together, to celebrate their cultural identity, and express gratitude for a bountiful harvest. The program was chaired by Chonpa, the Jury President of Pochury Hoho, adding a sense of tradition and community leadership to the event.
