The vibrant talent of the youth was celebrated during the day-long State Level Youth Festival held on October 3, at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. According to the DIPR, the event was graced by S. Keoshu Yimchunger, Advisor to the Youth Resources & Sports Department, as the Special Guest.

In his address, S. Keoshu expressed heartfelt appreciation for witnessing a gathering of exceptionally talented young individuals showcasing their skills and creativity. He acknowledged the Department for organizing such events, which provide a platform for young, gifted individuals to display their talents, particularly in the realm of folk dances and songs, which have been preserved through generations.

Comparing his school days to the present, Keoshu highlighted the privileged position of today’s youth, who have more opportunities and platforms to exhibit their talents. The Advisor encouraged all the young participants to seize these opportunities and utilize them to reach greater heights. Appreciating the dedication and hard work of the participants from different districts, which contributed to the success of the State Level Youth Festival, Keoshu noted that the event was not only colourful and memorable but also an inspiration to one’s peers and onlookers.

The festival featured a total of 265 youths from 11 districts who competed in folk dance and folk song categories. In the Folk Dance category, Kohima district secured the first position, with Phek and Mokokchung as the first and second runners-up. In the Folk Song category, Peren emerged as the winner, with Zunheboto and Mokokchung claiming the first and second runners up positions.

The program was chaired by Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director of the Youth Resources & Sports Department. Jakedovo Chase, Deputy Director of YRS, delivered the vote of thanks, and the State Level Youth Festival concluded with a prayer offered by Pastor Moa Imsong from City Church Kohima.
