In view of the rise in road accidents in Nagaland, the Advisor for Transport & Technical Education, Temjenmenba chaired a meeting of the Motor Vehicles Department on 3rd October 2023 held in the Conference Hall of the Transport Commissionerate, Kohima, DIPR has informed. The meeting was attended by Officers of the Department, including the Regional and District Transport Officers and the Assistant Regional Transport Officers of both the general and the Enforcement, it said.
Taking a very serious note of the road accidents in recent times, the Advisor impressed upon the officers of the Department to put in strengthened effort and programs to prevent road accidents. He emphasised the fact that accidents lead to loss of precious lives and often incur huge economic costs.
The officials of the Department must stringently enforce all the provisions of the MV Act to ensure that vehicles are perfectly fit for road use with all valid documents, he added. Furthermore, he insisted that drivers must be well-sensitised and periodical tests must be conducted to upgrade their skills.
The Advisor assured his support and assistance for the progress and strengthening the Department. He called upon all the officers to adopt a holistic approach to prevent road accidents in the state.

Expressing Gratitude to the Advisor for his time and sharing his concern personally on road safety issues in the Nagaland Transport Commissioner, Elias T. Lotha, gave an overview of the Transport Department as the “Lead Agency” for Road Safety in the State. He also highlighted the initiative taken by the Department till now in coordination with the line departments through adoption of a multi-prolonged strategy based on 4 (four) E’s (Enforcement, Engineering, Emergency Services and Education) of Road safety.
On behalf of the Department, Lotha expressed confidence in the leadership and ability of the Advisor in taking the Transport Department steps farther in the service of the State and in enhancement of its effective visibility in the socio-economic growth of Nagaland.
