In a shocking incident the former candidate from Naga People’s Front party and the current NPF Mokokchung Division President Moasangba Jamir has surrendered himself to the Mokokchung police for killing one of his workers.
The Police informed that they received the information around 4:30pm on Tuesday, 17th October 2023.
Moasangba Jamir was a former candidate of the NPF Party from 25 Mongoya Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district in the 2023 State General Election and is also currently serving as the President of NPF Mokokchung district.
According to sources, Jamir accidentally shot one of his workers with a .22 rifle gun at his resort located at Chuchuyimpang village, which is around 20 to 30 minutes away from Mokokchung town.
Reportedly an altercation broke out between two of his workers at the resort and one of them allegedly ran to Jamir for help and protection as the latter was chasing him with a machete. Jamir blank fired to stop the altercation which led to one of the bullets hitting the latter on the left chest, who succumbed to the bullet injury.
Sources also informed that Jamir surrendered himself to the Police after the said incident. He is currently under police custody.
The deceased has been identified as Longshang Konyak from Longching village under Mon district, and was working at Metsuben Resort, which belongs to Moasangba Jamir.
As per Mokokchung Police, statements are being collected from eye witnesses and investigation is underway and it is yet to be ascertained whether it is a murder case or an accidental death case.
The Police further informed that no FIR has been lodged so far and Post Mortem will be conducted tomorrow.
The 7 Eastern Tribe Union Mokokchung, ENPO, Mokokchung had a meeting with the Chuchuyimpang Village Council around 10:30 PM at Metsüben Resort where the Council admitted the accused’s involvement in the crime. The council stated that the council did not direct the incident to happen and said it was an unfortunate incident and requested that the accused be given forgiveness.
The 7 Eastern Tribe Union, along with the ENPO, Mkg, emphasized that the decision to forgive the accused would not be made hastily. They indicated the need to consult with the deceased’s family, clan, and the village council before concluding the meeting.
The Konyak Union Mokokchung, as stated by its President, will hold a meeting tomorrow. The deceased’s younger brother is said to be en route Mokokchung from Kohima and is expected to arrive shortly. The meeting will proceed once he arrives.
