The Ao Senden has expressed its discontent that tribal hohos were not included in the recent consultative meeting convened by the Select Committee of Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 on 6th November 2023 at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
“… we find it regrettable that the tribal apex bodies in attendance at the consultative meeting granted their assent without prior consultation with the respective Tribal Hohos they represent,” the Senden stated.

The Select Committee, after the meeting with Central Nagaland Council (CNTC), Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO) and Tenyimia Union Nagaland, expressed hope that the amended Nagaland Municipal Bill 2023 would be passed consensually in the Assembly and assured that there is no adverse opinion from the tribal leaders and the three tribal apex bodies.
On the 33 percent women reservation in urban local body, Deputy Chief Minister and the committee’s Convenor TR Zeliang assured that after series of consultations, the tribal bodies have also agreed in magnanimity.
In a setback, the Ao Senden said that it “unequivocally reiterates its unwavering stance on the opinion expressed during the consultative meeting held on September 1, 2023.”
While the details of 1 September consultative meeting between the Government of Nagaland and the various tribal councils are under wraps, the apex body of the Ao community had on 6th September rubbished reports that suggested that it had “accepted” 33 percent women reservation in ULB.
