India has called for end to violence and return of peace, stability, and democracy in Myanmar. This was conveyed by Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, during a media briefing on Thursday.
“We are deeply concerned”, the Bagchi said regarding the movement of Myanmar nationals into Mizoram.
On 15th November 2023, 29 personnel from the Myanmar junta surrendered to Mizoram Police after their camp was overrun by the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF). The personnel were handed over to the Assam Rifles and the Indian Government is facilitating their return to their home country. Earlier on 14th November, 39 soldiers were sent back via Moreh after they fled to Zokhawthar following a heavy battle with CNDF on 12th November.

Since 13th November, over 5000 Myanmarese reportedly crossed over to the border town of Zokhawthar in the Champhai district where the river Tiau (Ciau) serves as the boundary between the two countries.
MEA on Thursdays also stated that since the coup in 2021, a large number of Myanmar citizens were taking refuge in India and the local authorities have been handling the situation appropriately on humanitarian grounds. We have also been facilitating the return of those who wish to go back to their country, he added.
