In a condemnation notice released today, the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) expressed vehement condemnation against the assault of a college student by the Police. The incident involved the grievous assault inflicted upon Moalong Jamir, a 19-year-old student of Tetso College, Dimapur, by members of the AVTS team of Nagaland Police on January 29 in New Showba Village.

The OKM condemned the disgraceful actions that resulted in severe physical and mental trauma for Jamir, including damage to his left eardrum, fractured spinal cord, and swollen kidney. Such horrific behavior, perpetrated by individuals entrusted with upholding the law, stands as a conspicuous violation of human rights and an affront to justice and dignity, stated the OKM.

The statement issued by OKM emphasized the urgent need for immediate and decisive action by competent authorities to ensure full accountability of the perpetrators within the bounds of the law. The organization called for a thorough and impartial investigation, under transparent oversight, to deliver justice for Jamir and his family.

The OKM firmly rejected any attempts to justify or trivialize acts of violence, underlining that there can be no justification for the abuse of power and disregard for the rights and safety of individuals.

The OKM affirmed its commitment to monitor the developments in the case closely, vowing to persist until justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to account.
