The Lotha Hoho and the Lotha Civil Society organizations, on Friday, rejected the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha’s request to suspend the indefinite bandh on National Highway 2 (previously NH 61). The Lotha Hoho in its reply to the DC stated that the Lotha CSOs will call off the Bandh as and when the contractor brings all the machinery, implements, inventories, etc to the work site and starts execution of the work.
The DC had on 8th February 2024, written to the Lotha Hoho informing that the Chief Engineer, PWD (NH), Nagaland, had served a final notice to the contractor, TT Infra India Pvt Ltd, a period of ten days to resume the work on road widening of NH 2 from 72.4 km to 83.00 km in Wokha district. The DC also informed that necessary action will be initiated against the contractor if it does not adhere to the notice and therefore appealed that the indefinite bandh be lifted.
The Lotha Hoho in reply stated that the letters from the Chief Engineer, PWD (NH) notice to TT Infra India Pvt Ltd “does not have any fulfilment of the demand of the Lotha CSOs”.
On 8th February 2024, the Chief Engineer, PWD (NH), wrote to the Project Director of the company reminding that during the meeting on 4th December 2023, it was agreed that work would be re-started at locations where there are no land issues but till date work has not resumed.
The CE also said that the DC Wokha had assured to provide security to the workers for safe working environment and started the eviction and demolition of the structures outside the ROW.
Therefore, the CE gave the company a period of ten days to complete all works as per the contract agreement, failing which necessary action will be initiated against the firm.
Also on 8th February 2024, TT Infra India Pvt Ltd conveyed its intention to abandon the contract citing that the issues raised by the Lotha CSOs are not the responsibility of the contractor. It also stated that the company had been facing obstructions on a daily basis and that it has become near impossible for to complete contract project.
