With the proposed two- lane Foothills road Project to be undertaken by the Government starting from 2023-24 fiscal year, the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), in a press release stated that it adopted several resolutions. “NFHRCC appeal to the Government that Nagaland Foothills Road being an “Extraordinary Project” whereby Landowners parted their land without a penny of compensation. Naga Political Groups fully understood not to levy any forms of taxations. Therefore, in order to maintain transparency and Workmanship of the project “Tripartite agreement” should be entered between concerned Department, Contractor and NFHRCC,” stated the press release.
Having examined the history of the Nagaland State since inception, the Committee considered the Foothills Road as one and the only project whereby Naga CSOs had initiated the project with full dedication and sincerity for the last 11 years “with sweats and tears”. Therefore, in order to safeguard the entire interest of the Naga public, the Committeee stoutly resolved not to “Politicise” the project in any manner.
With the entire Foothills Road stretch starting from Tizit to Khelma, the committee has also appealed to the Government to provide an additional fund to the Khelma sector, with the road condition being deplorable, “that many of our brothers and sisters are still limping on the cactus”, mentioned the NFHRCC.

“The Committee has also resolved to provide connectivity road to Rengmapani with the view to bring even development within the family and to bind us together with the chain of love and Honour. Therefore, an additional fund must be provided to capture the missing link,” stated the press release issued by Convenor Supu Jamir, General Secretary W.Lemba Chang, Co Convenor Hokiye Yepthomi, and Asst. General Secretary Chenithung Humtsoe.
The Committee also made clear that no land compensation and No Taxation from any corner with regard to Foothills Road construction will be allowed, while reiterating that Foothills road will “be two lane 40 feet width in consonance with 2013 agreement and NOC provided to the State government by the committee as endorsed by the Apex Tribal Hohos”.
The Committee also asserted on its earlier agreement that the NFHRCC had signed a Joint declaration on 7th April 2014 with Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union to the effect that NCSU will support the Foothills Road till completion as the same is an extraordinary project. “Being an extraordinary project the selection of Contractors/Tendering process should be done extraordinarily or in other words extraordinary yardstick should be applied while exercising selection of contractors/tendering process with the sole intention to safeguard the Historic project from the clutches of any wanted elements,” stated the NFHRCC.
