The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik visited Kiphire District today where she held an interactive meeting with all the Heads of Offices, the district administration and civil organizations under Kiphire at the DC Conference Hall.
Bhoumik stated that the progress of the nation cannot proceed without taking Kiphire or any other district into account. She also said Kiphire district has huge potential if proper transportation is built.
Pointed out the commercial potential of avenues such as piggery, mushroom farm, fishery and handlooms of traditional attires in this digital age, the minister said for all this to come true, proper training should be given to the stakeholders in their respective fields.
Bhoumik also pointed out that the Center, seeing the potential and values of the north-eastern states, is trying its level best to transform the region, one such big step being the Look East Policy under Prime Minister Modi’s government.

Bhoumik lauded the district administration and NGO’s for dedicating their lives for a better society.
According to Bhoumi, PM Modi has been encouraging those in-charge of Aspirational districts to stay in their respective stations for at least two years so that they understand the ground challenges and bring about solutions in any way possible.
The Government of India had launched the Transformation of Aspirational Districts initiative in 2018 with the aim to raise the living standards of its citizens and improve India’s ranking under the Human Development Index. The NITI Aayog has identified 117 Aspirational districts with Kiphire being one such district.
The union minister, on her first ever visit to the Aspirational district, expressed the need for Kiphire to progress in many fields and lauded the district administration and NGO’s for dedicating their lives for a better society. Bhoumi also said she would like to visit the district in the coming years too.
The end of the meeting with civil organizations and Heads of Offices was followed by a press conference. When asked about the need for women specialists in the district hospital by Nagaland Tribune, the union minister assured that she would look into the matter seriously at the earliest.
