NSDMA, DDMAs extend relief to families in Peren, Niuland, Phek affected by hailstorm

Kohima: NDSMA urges public to be vigilant of extreme pre-monsoon weather event in coming days

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have extended relief to families and communities in the districts of Peren, Niuland and Phek who were affected by the extreme weather on 26th March 2024.

The heavy hailstorm reportedly tore through roof sheets of houses, destroyed crops and even caused some minor injuries.

NDSMA has informed that while the immediate relief was especially extended in Peren district, assessment of damage was underway at Niuland and Phek. At the same time, NSDMA has said that the concerned DDMA’s were vigilantly monitoring and reaching out to the affected families and community.

It has also informed affected families and communities not reached by the concerned DDMAs to approach the concerned circle administrative officers and report in order to obtain necessary assistance.

Further, NDSMA has urged the public to be vigilant as an extreme pre-monsoon weather event may occur in the coming days. In the event of any eventualities, public are advised to stay alert and report for any eventualities to the DDMAs.

In view of widespread rain, hailstones and heavy wind affecting various parts of Peren district on 26th March 2024.

The DDMA, Peren District distributed 220 Tarpaulins sheets to the 10 severely affected villages as immediate relief. Along with relief materials, medical aid was also provided to the seriously and minor injured persons.

There was no report of any casualty so far. The two assessment teams for preliminary assessment were said to be immediately dispatched on 27th March 2024 by DDMA to Ahthibung and Tening subdivision, the worst affected areas by the disaster, to assess the extent of damages and submit a report to the government.
