Former MLA Mhonlumo Kikon, National Spokesperson of BJP and BJP incharge of Mizoram on Saturday stated that Congress party lacks substantive agenda for Nagas ans the future of Nagaland.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines after the Lok Sabha campaign for People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Dr. Chumben Murry in Wokha on April 13, Kikon criticized the Congress terming them as ‘political tourists’ for their fleeting nature of its interest in Nagaland where they only visit the state during elections.

Drawing attention to Rahul Gandhi’s recent Yatra, Kikon stated that the Yatra is merely an entertainment suggesting that Rahul Gandhi’s visit did not focus on a single meaningful political discourse. Instead, the platform was used only to criticise PM Modi, suggested Kikon.

On the candidacy of Dr. Chumben Murry, Kikon said, “Murry is well aware of governance and is a very articulate, refined, polite, and knowledgeable  leader who will represent the Nagas well in the Parliament.”

Considering Dr. Murry as the ideal representative for Nagaland in  the Parliament, Kikon commended Murry’s commitment on prioritizing the Naga Political issue.

Refuting allegations on BJP’s religious prejudices, Kikon claimed it as ‘nothing but political propaganda’ which has been exaggerated. Kikon cited the presence of steadfast Christians among legislators from Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram within the party, and their active stance in defending Christian interests.

Kikon expressed confidence in BJP’s victory asserting that the party will win 370 seats or more in the Centre. The former MLA also exuded optimism in PDA’s win, attributing it to the electorate’s recognition of the need for a vocal Lok Sabha MP.

On the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) issue, Kikon urged for their participation in the democratic process, while also assuring that the ENPO’s concerns has been given due consideration at the highest levels.
