Ten villages in Shamator completely cut off, crops, bridges damaged in Shamator

Ten villages in Shamator has been completely cut off following unprecedented rainfall on April 19 and 20. Further, around twenty villages in the Chessore, Y. Anner, Muleangkiur, Chassir, Lasikiur, Sotokur circle and Mangko circle has been affected.

Lamenting over the destruction of his entire field and fisher pond, Rijang, VCC of Muleangkiur stated that these were the only means of sustenance for his household. Most of the crops and vegetables were just sowed and planted prior to the windstorm only to be lost in destruction, stated Rijang.

Kutcha houses, culverts and bridges are also reported to be severely damaged. Crops and vegetables such as maize , potato, beans and fisheries has been destroyed deeply affecting the farmers.

The Deputy Commissioner, Shamator, Y. Chingyak Konyak, through a press communiqué, informed that unprecedented rainfall on April 19 and 20 has left a trail of damage under Shamator district.

Ten villages in the district have been completely cut-off. Konyak stated that power and cellular connectivity have been severely affected, and scores of culverts and minor bridges have been washed-off. Landslides and mudslides have blocked most of the roads connecting the district.

The DC also informed three major bridges, Langa bridge – Connecting Shamator hq and Tuensang; Muksuke bridge – Connecting Chessore Sub division with Tuensang and Shipong bridge – Connecting Shamator hq with Mangko EAC circle, have been severely damaged and on the verge of collapse.

“Hundreds of terrace fields and fisheries have been washed off. Many vehicles returning from election duty are still stranded in various parts of the district,” informed the DC.

He also informed that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is on the job but lack of machineries and resources have severely impacted road clearance and other restorative work in the district.
