In an act of solidarity for International Mother’s Day, the Indian Army commemorated the occasion by organising a series of programmes all over North-Eastern states under the theme, “Mother – The First Protector”.
A number of 50 women from Gelemo and Taksing Village, Arunachal Pradesh were honoured for their selfless commitment and support for the Indian Army. Under such an occasion, a medical checkup was also organised.
Additionally, another event involving an old age home, ‘Apna Ghar’ in Bariala, Agartala was also hosted where 50 women were celebrated and honoured.

Furthermore, the Indian Army also provided essential medical aids and baby care kits to 14 mothers with infants in Bishnupur District, Manipur. An Awareness Capsule was also held to spread maternal issues on peripartum and postpartum in Imphal East District, alongside recreational activities and interactive sessions.
The Indian Army through active engagement with the Women Civil Organisation (CSOs) and NGOs, aim to nurture brighter prospects and foster resilience within communities across the North Eastern States by empowering the role of mothers through skill development and child education. The Indian Army has also initiated lectures and seminars in the past to highlight maternal healthcare practices, equipping mothers with the information and tools necessary to foster healthier communities.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles too celebrated Mother’s Day 2024 on 12th May by distributing 20 CGI sheets to the Pochury Mothers’ Association in Meluri, Phek district and sweets to mothers in Avangkhu village. The initiative aimed at addressing housing needs in the community.
In Pfütsero, Phek district, the Assam Rifles celebrated the occasion with Chakhesang Mothers’ Association and 20 Mothers of the nearby villages at Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School.
Mother’s Day was also celebrated at Assam Rifles Middle School, Radhanagar, Tripura where group songs and dances performances along with preparation of greeting cards by the students for their mothers were key highlights of the event.
At Pumao villagers, Longding District in Arunachal Pradesh, the Assam Rifles acknowledged 350 women for their contributions in the upbringing of the younger generations and fostering unity and peace among Assam Rifles and locals.
