The Union Government has released an additional installment of Tax Devolution to States apart from the regular release of the devolution amount for the month of June 2024, the Ministry of Finance informed on Monday.
This release that cumulatively amounts to Rs. 1,39,750 crore will enable State Governments to accelerate development and capital spending, it said.
Nagaland will get Rs 795.20 crore from this additional release.
The State that will receive the highest amount is Uttar Pradesh at Rs 25069.88 crore, followed by Bihar at Rs 14056.12 crore.
On Monday, Nirmala Sitharaman got another term as Union Finance Minister.
Soon after the announcement of the Tax Devolution, Congress General Secretary (Communication) stated that tax devolutions are “Constitutional ENTITLEMENTS determined by the Finance Commission” and not “special favours” and accused the government of trying “to pass off what is legitimately due to states as some prasad being distributed.”
