The much-awaited tournament – the 22nd edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy – is all set to take place from 7 to 29 October at IG Stadium, Kohima, under the theme ‘Goal for Peace’.
Convenor of the organising committee, Zekuseto Natso, informed this in a press conference held today at the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) office, Kohima. He said the inaugural match and the matches from the quarter final till the grand finale would be night matches while the preliminary round matches would be played during the day time.
The 22nd edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy is being organized by the Angami Students Union.
The Trophy is organized in honour and memory of late Kekuojalie Sachü of Kohima Village and late Vikhozo Yhoshü of Kigwema Village “who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the Nagas”, the convenor said.
The inaugural match of the 22nd Edition of the NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy 2022 will kick off on 7 October at 4:30pm at IG Stadium where MLA & Co-Chairman UDA Kuzholuzo Nienu will grace the occasion as the inaugural guest.
The convenor further informed that the 22nd edition will witness 35 teams vying for the coveted cup. One team from Shillong, Shillong Lajong FC, two teams from Manipur and teams from Chümoukedima and Phek districts have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
The Champion will receive a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000; 1st Runners Up Rs 1,20,000; Losing Semi Finalist Rs 30,000 each; and Losing Quarter Finalist Rs 15,000 each.
The best goalkeeper, best midfielder, best defender and the highest scorer will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with citation respectively. The player of the tournament will receive a two-wheeler along with citation.
In addition, for every match starting from the kick off till the grand finale, there will be an award for Player of the Match who will be awarded a special souvenir specifically designed for this category.
