Awareness Campaign on National Clean Air Programme was held on 7th September 2024 at the venue of Livingstone Foundation International which was organised by the District Administration, Dimapur in collaboration with Livingstone Foundation Society and Breeze Women Welfare Association (BWWA) with the theme: ‘Celebrating International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies’. The programme was graced by Hukheto Yepthomi, Chairman, Dimapur Municipal Council, as the special guest.
In his speech, Hukheto Yepthomi said that air pollution is a great concern which is very risky for the people and a very important part of our lives. He noted that to stop air pollution from getting worse, he urged everyone to act now and bring a change in the environment and air quality. He hoped that the younger generation will do the same for their future, and the government, civil society and schools will take initiative to take actions.
Yanathung Kithan, Scientist B, while speaking about the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) said: NCAP is a vital initiative to tackle air pollution in Dimapur. We have set up seven monitoring stations in the city to track PM10, PM2.5, and other pollutants. He informed that the Central Government launched National Clean Air Programme (NACP) as a long term, time-bound, National level strategy to achieve the targets and it has aimed at a 40% reduction in particulate matter by 2026 and are working closely with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, local authorities, and stakeholders to implement measures such as enhancing public awareness, promoting cleaner fuels, improving waste management and encouraging sustainable transportation He also said that regular monitoring and data analysis will help us assess the effectiveness of these initiatives and make data-driven decisions to improve air quality in Dimapur.
The programme was chaired by Vernon Fernandez. Invocation by Vimeyieno Tsukru, LFI. Felicitations of Dignitaries and Guests by Ani Yapthomi, president BWWA. Two Special numbers were presented by LFI students and Vote of thanks by Imlijungla lemtur (NCS) EAC, Dimapur. Later, it was followed by tree plantations and Inter School Competition.
