Unity Over Division: Minister Imna Along Urges Students to Build a Prosperous Nagaland Together

Dimapur: Minister Along appeals students to avoid forming tribal unions and to appreciate the diversity

The ANCSU Collegiate Meet 2024 commenced on October 29 under the theme “Enabling Potentialities”concluded with a special “Collegiate Night with the Chief Host” at the Livingstone Foundation International College, Organized by the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU)

In his address as Chief Host, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, commended ANCSU for providing a platform for students across Nagaland to come together, recognizing the Collegiate Meet as “the biggest and grandest” student gathering in the state. He encouraged the students to seek knowledge and, as future leaders, to move forward without fear, doubt, jealousy, or selfishness. “When you graduate, I want you to go out without doubting each other, then Nagaland would be a beautiful Nagaland, a prosperous Nagaland,” he remarked.

Minister Imna Along urged students to abandon tribalism, jealousy, and self-centered agendas. “You are the leaders of tomorrow, and your influence will impact your community and society,” he said, emphasizing unity over division and encouraging them to work inclusively across tribes. He also advised the talented and skilled among them to support others humbly and quietly, highlighting the value of being “the background of people growing.”

He cautioned students about the influence of social media and the risks of sharing unverified information online, stressing the need to be responsible digital citizens. “Kindly be knowledgeable when you post on digital platforms. Digital platforms give access to the whole earth, and irresponsible posts could bring chaos,” he warned.

In addition, Minister Imna Along spoke of the role students would play in bringing prosperity to Nagaland, urging them not to limit their ambitions to government jobs. “Nagaland suffers because the literate do not want to work after achieving degrees. We have countless unions, even more than the state government departments,” he said, appealing to students to avoid forming tribal unions and to appreciate the diversity within their own state. He encouraged them to explore Nagaland and connect with communities beyond their own, fostering unity and understanding across tribal lines.

The event commenced with Talikaba Longkumer and Imlisen as comperes. Kivika Yeptho, the Information & Publicity Secretary of ANCSU, welcomed the gathering with a warm note.Dr. Baruah, the honored guest, extended his greetings. The evening concluded with a “Lead Up” session and closing remarks, marking the official wrap-up of the collegiate meet.
