Mmyan Village, a new village under Wokha district was inaugurated today by Y. Patton, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home & Border Affairs, Government of Nagaland, who graced the occasion as the the inaugural guest. During the event, Patton unveiled the village inaugural monolith which was dedicated by R. Zanbemo Kithan, Pastor of Yikhum Baptist Church.
In his speech, Patton expressed his appreciation to gathering from neighboring villages of the Englan range and beyond. With the process requiring more than ten years, Patton acknowledged the ancestral village of Yikhum for providing the land with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to establish the new village. He urged the settlers of Mmyan Village to foster unity and togetherness, upholding their village name in one spirit.
With the decrease in agricultural practices among today’s generation, Patton rued over the decline which has also led to economic imbalance, citing how in the earlier days, the abundance of granary was provided a sense of pride and wealth. In this regard, he urged the people of the area to practice farming and become economically independent, relaying that the village is rich and fertile with the potential of production and quality.

The Deputy CM also addressed a representation submitted by the villagers for road connectivity, where he assured that he would pursue the road construction. He also highlighted that villagers need to have permanent residences and households to avail various developmental programs and schemes, adding that the establishment of a new village should not be used merely to secure government funds but for the proper progress and development of the people.
During the event, the welcome note was delivered by E. Thungdemo Jungi, Seasonal Chairman of Mmyan Village, and short speeches by the Chairman of Yikhum Village Council, R. Nzanbemo Lotha, Member NHRC, and various dignitaries.
Thechamo Kithan, Pastor of Englan Range Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation prayer while Lichio Murry delivered the vote of thanks, and Chonbemo Shitiri, Pastor of Old Changsu Baptist Church, pronounced the benediction. The event was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Superintendent of Police Wokha, and NCP Nagaland State President.
