In a resounding demonstration of civic engagement and social responsibility, the Department of Political Science, MGM College, successfully organized a Community Extension Service Cleanliness Drive on 12 April. The initiative was not only an exercise in environmental awareness but also a living example of participatory democracy and responsible citizenship, stated a press release by the college.

The drive was carried out by students and faculty members, who enthusiastically cleared public areas, cleaned streets, and educated the community on the importance of maintaining hygiene and adopting sustainable waste management practices. All students from the department actively participated in the drive, equipped with gloves, garbage bags, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies.

This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing Community Extension Programme, which aims to instill political consciousness, public ethics, and grassroots activism among students. By stepping out of the classroom and into the real world, the students experienced firsthand the significance of community participation in governance and development.

“The Department of Political Science continues to set a precedent for academic departments by seamlessly integrating education with active community involvement. The success of the cleanliness drive stands as a powerful reminder that positive change begins with each one of us and that the classroom can, indeed, extend to the streets when the cause is noble,” mentioned the press release.
