AYO continues non-cooperation with NSCN K (Khango)

The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has announced that its non-cooperation with the Khango-led NSCN-K is still on and all Angami national workers previously affiliated with the group have officially withdrawn from the group.

Confirming this at a press conference held at AYO office on Thursday, the organization reiterated that its non-cooperation with the NSCN-K (Khango) group is still ongoing as the latter had failed to fulfill critical points of a mutual agreement made between them in August last year. To this effect, the AYO has asserted that NSCN K (Khango) should henceforth refrain itself from soliciting any financial favors within the Angami jurisdiction.

The issue dates back to July 2024 when an individual identified as “Max Naga” claiming to be from NSCN-K (Khango) allegedly demanded a huge sum of money from a contractor belonging to the Angami community and threatened him with “capital punishment” should he fail to pay the amount within 15 days. The youth organization then launched a non-cooperation movement against the group while the latter issued directive restricting the work of Angami contractors in other districts. The standoff led to public rallies against multiple illegal taxation by Naga national workers on business community.

On August 20 last, the Ceasefire Monitoring Board facilitated a meeting with both AYO and NSCN-K (Khango) to resolve the imbroglio between them. During the meeting, both parties had agreed upon certain resolutions, including unconditional withdrawal of the imposition of capital punishment to the Angami contractor by NSCN-K (Khango); the group to retract its directive restricting the activities of Angami contractors across other districts in Nagaland; that the NSCN-K (Khango) shall make it known to the public the identity of the person alias “Max Naga”; and shall initiate appropriate disciplinary action against him within 15 days from the day of the agreement. Accordingly, the AYO would withdraw its non-cooperation with the group and also withdraw its recall on the Angami national workers from the NSCN-K (Khango).

AYO president Kesosul Christopher Ltu pointed out that AYO is appreciative of the group having fulfilled three points, however, the identity of “Max Naga” is yet to be disclosed and appropriate action against him yet to be initiated even after a lapse of almost 10 months.

AYO will continue its non-cooperation and disengagement of Angami members from the NSCN-K (Khango) till the time the group demonstrates full compliance of its commitment.

Ltu stated that since the AYO non-cooperation persists, the NSCN-K (Khango) should henceforth refrain itself from soliciting any financial favors within the Angami jurisdiction. While expressing regret and terming it unfortunate that much disunity and defragmentation is happening in the society today, AYO president stated that circumstances has compelled the organization to come to this point where they still had to continue the non-cooperation with the NSCN-K (Khango).
