In a tragic development, the body of 19-year-old student Pesha T, who had been missing from Dimapur since May 24, was confirmed to have been found in Assam. The discovery, initially made by Assam Police on May 26, was officially communicated to the victim’s family on June 2.
Pesha, a Class 11 student of Unity Christian Higher Secondary School in Diphupar, had recently moved to Dimapur from Assam. He was last seen on the afternoon of May 24, leaving his residence on a red Platina scooty, wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. According to his father, M Tunyu Khiamniungan, Pesha received a phone call from a friend shortly before leaving, though the identity of the caller remains unknown.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged at Diphupar Police Station on May 26. The same day, Assam Police reportedly recovered a body from the Dhansari river. The deceased remained unidentified and unclaimed for 72 hours before being buried by authorities in Assam on May 29.
Extensive search efforts had been carried out in Dimapur, led by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), volunteers, and family members. Operations spanned from the Dhansaripar river to the Thahekhu bridge, but yielded no success.
On June 2, a friend of Pesha reportedly confessed at Diphupar Police Station that the two had gone to the Dhansari river for a swim, during which Pesha accidentally slipped and drowned. This revelation helped confirm suspicions that the body found earlier in Assam could be that of the missing student.
