MLA from Bhandari assembly constituency, Achumbemo Kikon on Wednesday inaugurated a 1.6 (33/11KV) substation at Merapani village under Wokha district.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Kikon said with the inauguration of transformer, the power department will be able to provide sufficient uninterrupted power supply and it will go a long way in helping the people of the area.
He appealed to the people to check power theft, ensure timely payment of electricity bills and initiate awareness programmes to conserve electricity for common cause.
The MLA thanked the Power Ministry, department officials, power grid and field workers who were involved in the timely completion of the work. He also extended gratitude to the land donors and general public for extending support and co-operation.
EAC Bhandari, Kilangtemsu emphasized on the knowledge of conserving the energy when it is not required and how to the pay bill on time. He urged the people to be responsible citizens. While congratulating the power department for the feat, the official also thanked MLA Kikon for his initiative and assistance in fulfilling the needs and requirements of the people of the area.

Short speeches were also delivered by VCC Merapani village, Nyamo Odyuo and Town Council Chairman Bhandari, Khonthungya Odyuo.
Executive engineer Wokha Electrical Division Chenosing Kemp, while presenting the technical report said that though a departmental project, the initiative and assistance from MLA Kikon, department officals, Merapani Village Council, Bhandari Town Council, Bhandari administration and landowners have all contributed towards the installation and construction success of 33 kv line from Bhandari town (2.5 MVA,S/S) to Merapani.
The installation of 1.6 MVA (33/KV) power transformer substation at Merapani village will cover 21 villages. The total cost of the project has been estimated to be Rs.1,33,80,200.
The function was chaired by Bhandari section junior engineer Mhaden Murry, while vote of thanks was delivered by SDO (Sanis Electrical Sub-division) Vungthungo L Murry.
