The department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) is organising a Pre-Subroto Cup Cluster-1, in collaboration with Nagaland Football Association (NFA), which commenced on June 23 and will go on till June 26 at Chümoukedima Football Stadium.

District Sports Officer (DSO) Chümoukedima, Wutsutho giving a brief overview of the tournament said this year, the department is organizing two clusters. Cluster 1 is being held at Chümoukedima Football Stadium while Cluster 2 is being held at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima. He said altogether 28 schools are participating- 17 schools in Under-15 boys category and nine schools in Under-17 girls.

The official informed that from Cluster-1, the best two teams (U-15 boys) will compete with Cluster-2 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on June 30. The top two U-15 boys teams and top one U-17 girls team will be selected. In total there will be 12 matches.

Wutsutho encouraged all aspiring football players to take the tournament seriously as they will be participating and representing the senior team with many responsibilities if they do well. He pointed out that if they perform exceptionally well then many big clubs from the state and even from the national level may select or invite them to join their clubs.

He informed that the winner of the state level for both boys and girls categories will represent the state and will compete with the rest the states and union territories in New Delhi in August. He said the department will bear the winning teams’ expenditures for their uniforms, jersey, shorts, boots etc.

He thanked all the participating schools’ authorities for allowing their students to participate in the tournament and hoped for continued participation in the years to come.
