Former Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Dr. Chotisuh Sazo, today underscored the critical importance of preserving one’s mother tongue as a foundation of cultural identity, stating that “language is the real identity of humanity.”
He was addressing the 15th General Session of the Chokri Chakhesang Literature Board (CCLB) as the Guest Speaker under the theme “Language is the first identity,” held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Government High School, Japan Riba, Chozuba.
He emphasized the necessity of keeping oneself intact with their own language and added that speaking mother tongue at the family platform is the key factor to promote and preserved language and update with identity.
He appealed to the members present to be serious enough with the upcoming of census drive tentatively scheduled in 2027 and registered accurately
Shekholu Tetseo, Research Associate, SCERT, Nagaland, dwelt on the topic, “Promoting Language” while Zachilhu R Vadeo, Convenor Core Committee, spoke on the subject, “Chokri Language: Developmental activities”. Dr Zokho Venuh, Principal, Capital College of Higher Education, Kohima moderated the session and Vengotso Khamo, Text book production Committee member recorded the session minutes.
Nuveta Khusoh, led the inaugural session, Rev. Vesavo Shijo, Pastor, CVBC invoked God’s blessing, CCLB Chairman Ariyi Nienu offered keynote address. The audience were enthralled by the special folks tune presented by Dr Chotisuh Sazo and Shetsuyi Ruho while note of gratitude was tendered by CCLB General Secretary (Admn) Vekhozo Ringa.
Mention may be made that entire expenditures was borne by Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA & Leader of NPF Legislature Party and the CCLB conveyed its indebtedness to him.

Meanwhile, a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2025-2027 was installed which was announced by Zhovehu Lohe, Convenor Nomination Committee. The office bearers are Vekhozo Ringa—Chairman; Khamo (Gen. Administration) and Khrusahu Rhakho (Gospel Literature)—Vice Chairmen; Dr. Vekhruzo Keyho—General Secretary (Admn); Thekuvelu Sakhamo—General Secretary (Tech); Kuveho Soho—Joint Secretary; Vekhosa Nakro—Finance Secretary; Kevesho Tetseo—Treasurer; Vedukho Shijoh—Media Secretary; Sekholu Tetseo and Vetsuno Ringa—Assistant Secretaries; and Vesavolu Soho—Ex-Officio Member.
The new team was blessed by Dutsonyi, Pastor, Dzülhami Baptist Church.
A quarterly Journal “Chokri Jüye Da” in Chokri language which was prepared by CCLB was officially released today by outgoing Chairman Ariyi Nienu and was subsequently distributed to all the delegates present. Approximately 300 persons registered for the session.
